9th Latin Night - Saturday, May 7th, 2011

The Centro Cultural Latinos Unidos, (CCLU), invites you to participate in a very special community event, Becoming a Sponsor of CCLU’s 7th annual Latin Night (Noche Latina), you will have an opportunity to show your support for a uniquely Pottstown event as well as to introduce the Latin-American community to your business.

This event is in collaboratives with Pottstown Human Relations Commission.

This festive evening event takes place on Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at Academy Hall Armand Hammer Blvd & Industrial Hwy, in Pottstown. We anticipate over 350 community leaders, Latin-American families and Pottstown residents to participate. In addition to fabulous food, great music and dance, there will be performances by the CCLU’s After School Program students, informational booths and even an opportunity to dance. We would like to include your company as part of this year’s event. In addition to your tax-deductible donation you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your sponsorship will benefit the CCLU’s After School Program and help Latino students reach their fullest potential to take leadership roles within the community.

"Las Posadas"

Las Posadas, is a celebration originated in Mexico.  It celebrates Mary and Joeseph traveling and looking for a place to stay and have their child Jesus.  In mexico, a play portays the event and it travels from house to house in small towns, until they reach a home that hosts the party.  They invite the family and their friends to celebrate the season.  Las Posadas, is a hoilday that has been celebrated in mexico for several decades, and reflects Mexico's close ties to their releigion and love of family.  It was C.C.L.U.'s pleasure to host this event, bringing culutral diversity to the community and encouraging Hispanics to feel proud of their culture.

"Saw Dust Rug"

Saw Dust Rug, is one of the most important event of Easter in some of Central American, and Guatemala. In Guatemala, the roots of the culture, and religion of Spanish heritage will be displayed." Saw Dust" is sifted very fine, and dyed many colors, sweet smelling flowers, and pine goes into making this precious rug in relation to Easter. The different levels of the making of the rug signify both individual and personal respect towards the religion, but also to persevere the original Indian culture. The Spanish Colonist original purpose for the rug was to honor special events or people; they recorded their ideas in books. The Indians of Guatemala found these books, and added original ideas from their culture. Today the rug is used in churches to keep the culture alive.

This year, we are so proud to present to the Pottstown Community, thru St. Aloysius Church, 214 Hanover and Beech St. , in the Begley Hall, a sample of this art, on Wednesday April 7, 2004 and it will be in exposition until Sunday, April 11, 2004 from 9 :00 am to 5:00 pm.

This program will be displayed in collaboration with members of the Latino community and with the sponsor of Five Counties of the An Foundation. Programs and similar events help to conserve our culture by placing emphasis in preserve the beauty of Latin arts and pass it to other generations.

Our Mission is to enhance the leadership skill of Latino and other ethnic youth groups in our community, by creating, nurturing, and promoting an environment of growth through the development of cultural enrichment.

Programs or similar events likes this, help to maintain the root of our culture by placing, emphasis on preserving the beauty of Latin arts, utilize various arts forms to create a condition that will enable youth to express their views of the world and their roles in it. Throughout this project we would like to display the different acts and talents that the Latino community has to offer. Many people become very intimidated when they see how different and unique the Latino culture is. We will be able to preserve the culture and pass it to other generations.

We invite everyone in the Saint Aloysius Parish in Pottstown, and outside communities such as. Reading, Norristown, Coatesville, and surrounding municipalities to come and see the beautiful art work. We believe in order to heal and build our community of past stereotypes of Latin people; we must learn from each other together as a people for all our futures.
